Cougar Rock is the largest campground in Mount Rainier National Park — 173 sites in dense old-growth forest of Douglas fir and red cedar. The iconic Rainier summit is visible from clearings around the campground. Close to Paradise (the most-visited area in the park) and the start of the Skyline Trail. Peak wildflower season July–August transforms the meadows above into one of the most spectacular sights in the Pacific Northwest.

The largest campground in Mount Rainier NP, 4 miles from Paradise — the park’s iconic area with the most spectacular wildflower meadows in the Cascades. Camp in old-growth Douglas fir and red cedar while Rainier’s summit towers above the treeline.

The Carter Falls trail starts from a trailhead 1 mile north of camp and almost nobody uses it. 3.6 miles round trip to a 130-foot waterfall on the Paradise River through old-growth forest. While everyone drives to Paradise, this trail is usually empty.
