Tahoe Valley Campground

Best amenities at Tahoe — year-round, full hookups, family resort

Location: South Lake Tahoe, CA, CA

Price: From $75 per night

Price range: $75–$125 per night

Rating: 4.2 out of 5 (1864 reviews)

Elevation: 6562 feet

Season: Year-round

The most amenity-rich campground at Lake Tahoe and one of the only year-round options on either shore. Run by Encore/Thousand Trails, Tahoe Valley sits in the heart of South Lake Tahoe walking distance from groceries and restaurants. Two pools, massive dog park, pickleball, basketball, volleyball, movie nights, and food trucks. Not rustic — but reliable, hookup-equipped, and always open.

Cell coverage (FCC estimate): strong signal. Actual signal may vary in remote areas. Best carrier: T-Mobile. Verizon 4G: 100%. AT&T 4G: 100%. T-Mobile 4G: 100%.

Amenities: 2 Pools, Full Hookups (30/50A), Hot Showers, Laundry, General Store, Dog Park, Basketball, Pickleball, Tennis, Horseshoes, Volleyball, Playground, Movie Nights, Food Trucks, Propane Station, Air Station, Cable TV, Pet Friendly

The only truly year-round campground at Lake Tahoe with full hookups. Every other campground in the basin closes October–May. When Tahoe gets 3 feet of snow and everywhere else is locked, Tahoe Valley is open, heated, and has clean showers. That alone makes it indispensable for winter travelers, ski-season RVers, and anyone who couldn't plan 6 months ahead.

The Saturday morning breakfast for a small fee is a local secret — griddle pancakes, eggs, and coffee with your camp neighbors. It starts at 8am and runs out fast. Most guests never know it exists. ⇒ Water: The Upper Truckee River runs along the campground’s south boundary — wade in at the informal access near the entrance for stream swimming away from the busy lake beaches. Shallow and slow enough for children. Catch-and-release brown trout fishing with a California fishing license.

What is new at Tahoe Valley Campground: Encore/Thousand Trails completed renovations to multiple bathroom facilities in late 2025. New propane fire pit rentals available through the Bear Necessities store on-site. Extended stay rates now available for 185+ day stays booked directly.

Wildlife alert: Bears are active year-round. Multiple documented incidents of bears entering campsites where food was improperly stored. Use bear boxes provided at every site.

Fire rules: No wood or charcoal fires May 1 – November 1. Propane fires allowed year-round. Fire pits available to purchase at the Bear Necessities store on-site.

Things to do near Tahoe Valley Campground: Pope Baldwin Bike Path — 5 miles of flat, paved, lakeside cycling. Rent bikes at the campground or bring your own. Saturday morning breakfast — small fee, huge pancakes, camp community atmosphere. Lake Tahoe Pizza Co. across the road — consistently voted best pizza in South Tahoe. Mini sledding hill on-site in winter — kids love it, adults secretly love it too. Movie nights in the event tent — check the schedule at check-in.

Cell signal is decent at the campground itself. No quiet-hour enforcement after 10pm — rowdy groups common in summer. Book shoulder season (Oct–Apr) or request sites in Loop F which tends to be quieter. Bring quality earplugs for summer. Bear activity — campers leave food out despite warnings. Always store food in your vehicle or the provided bear boxes. Bears are active at this campground year-round, not just summer. Dump station fee jumped from $10 to $35 without notice.
