The beach slope here is the most gradual in San Felipe — perfect for kayak launches and wading — and the January–February atmosphere is unlike any other campground: communal dinners, happy hours, and the kind of traveler camaraderie that forms only when the same people return to the same place year after year.
The January–February snowbird community at Ruben’s is a genuine phenomenon — multi-week stays from the same guests who’ve returned for 10, 15, 20 years. The potlucks and happy hours are organic and nightly. It’s more retirement village than campground, in the best possible way.

We have returned to Ruben’s for 30 consecutive winters. The family remembered our site preference from three years ago. That does not happen at big RV parks. This place is about the people.
The beach slope here is the most gradual in San Felipe — perfect kayak launch. Flat turquoise water immediately off the beach. Paddled for two hours and saw dolphins. Best morning of the trip.
January at Ruben’s is a village. Potlucks every other night, happy hours at 4pm daily, same guests returning for 10-20 years. Introduced ourselves on day one and had dinner invitations for the entire week.
