San Felipe has some of the most extreme tidal changes in North America — up to 20 feet difference between high and low tide. At low tide, the water recedes 200+ yards from the shore, exposing vast tidal flats excellent for sand dollar hunting and beachcombing. This is especially dramatic at Pete's Camp, where the beach can extend far into the Sea of Cortez at low tide. Always check tide charts before camping beachfront.
November through April is peak season and ideal weather (60–80°F). January and February are the busiest months — book Pete's Camp well in advance. May through October brings extreme heat (regularly 100–110°F+) and most snowbirds leave by May. September–October is a good off-peak window with lower prices and fewer crowds.
